Tech’s justice power: CJI D.Y. Chandrachud crowns it compellingly

The Chief Justice of India, D.Y. Chandrachud, has stated that technology has become a powerful force for justice and must be designed with equity and inclusivity in mind. Speaking at a legal conference, Justice Chandrachud stressed the need for law officers to remain impartial and conduct themselves with dignity to uphold the integrity of legal proceedings. He also emphasized the importance of modernizing courtrooms and facilities to enhance transparency and accountability. The Chief Justice discussed the e-courts project, which aims to leverage technology to improve access to justice, while also ensuring that technological solutions are designed to meet the diverse needs of all stakeholders.

Additionally, Justice Chandrachud highlighted the significance of global collaboration and trust-building in addressing cross-border challenges to justice delivery. He called for the integration of technology and interdisciplinary studies in legal education, but also emphasized the need for equitable access to legal education, ensuring admissions processes are fair, transparent, and inclusive. The Chief Justice also discussed the ethical conduct and responsibility of law officers in upholding executive accountability.

The conference, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other prominent legal figures, aimed to foster collaboration between justice administration officials and promote substantive discussions on pressing legal issues. Justice Chandrachud stated that the event was a strategic alliance towards creating a more just legal system globally. The Chief Justice also stressed the role of sustainable development goals in shaping the future, particularly in ending poverty and protecting the planet.
