On 14th December, an extensive update on Discord led to an unexpected crash on startup error. The popular software, which is widely used for managing communities and communication, displayed a standard “Well this is awkward” error message. Numerous users reported facing this issue across web, mobile, and client versions of Discord, making it a widespread concern.

Thankfully, the downtime didn’t last long. By 1:20 p.m. ET, the problem seemed to have been resolved for the majority of users according to the official Discord Status page, which showed all systems as operational.

For anyone who may still be encountering issues, there suggested steps to potentially fix the problem. Initially, completely close Discord to ensure the app is not running in the background. If you’re using Discord on PC, try running it as an Administrator. If these steps fail to solve the issue, open the Settings in the Discord app and verify you’re running the latest version of Discord. Attempt restarting the Discord app to trigger an update if you’re not on the most current version.

Moreover, if you’re already using the latest version but still can’t connect, try logging out and logging back in. After following these steps if the issue remains unresolved and you have confirmed that the Discord servers are operational, it may be necessary to uninstall and redownload the latest version of Discord.

This unusual error with Discord serves as a reminder that even the most reliable software can sometimes experience glitches, especially following significant updates. Most importantly, the swift resolution of this issue demonstrates Discord’s commitment to providing their users with a consistent and effective community management platform.
