Villa Vie Residences, a startup company that promotes the concept of living aboard a cruise ship for a multi-year world cruise, has agreed to purchase a 30-year-old ship, Braemar, from Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines. The company seeks to merge the concept of ownership and renting for an extended voyage, following in the footsteps of several others who introduced similar ideas but failed to launch.
The cruise ship, due for delivery at the end of February 2024, will undergo a transformation into a residential cruise ship and be renamed Villa Vie Odyssey. The redesign will feature residence spaces with queen-size beds, en-suite bathrooms, and dedicated workspaces. Other amenities will include three restaurants, eight bars, four lounges, an extended pool, hot tubs, a spa and fitness center, and a library. Villa Vie Residences also plans to add a business center, culinary center, and golf simulator, alongside Starlink and Viasat 3 for internet service.
Prices for a place on the cruise will start at $99,999 per year for an inside cabin and go up to $149,999 for an outside cabin. A limited number of cabins will feature private balconies, for which the prices will start from $249,999. It is also possible to pay for the residences monthly, with costs ranging between $2,500 and $8,000. In addition to the residence cost, there will also be a monthly fee for owners starting from $1,750 to $4,000 per person.
The world cruise is scheduled to begin from England on May 15, 2024, and is expected to last for 3.5 years. The journey will encompass 425 ports in 147 countries, with extended port stays from two to seven days.
