Portuguese tech startup program Unicorn Factory Lisboa has opened The Gaming Hub in Lisbon, a new innovation hub dedicated to fostering game startups. The hub aims to promote synergies between startups, investors, and multinational companies, and serve as a meeting point for the gaming community. Fortis Games, a U.S.-based game company, has partnered with Unicorn Factory Lisboa to open a studio in Lisbon as part of the project. Other partners include Maleo, an office space management company, and the Association of Portuguese Video Game Producers (APVP). With the video games industry in Portugal currently worth $400.7 million, the Lisbon Gaming Hub represents an important step in the city’s strategy to create communities and hubs focused on innovation in high-growth areas.
The Lisbon Gaming Hub is located in the Saldanha area, positioning it as Lisbon’s new “Innovation District”. It is divided into two floors and features private rooms, co-working spaces, and virtual members from various gaming companies including OnTop Studios and Volt Games. The hub aims to provide mentorship for game startups and serve as a venue for networking events, game jams, meetups, and workshops.
Unicorn Factory Lisboa, in partnership with Lisbon City Council, plans to expand its specialization strategy by creating new communities and innovation centers in high-growth areas such as AI, Web3, and XR. The goal is to attract investment, create jobs, and foster the growth of ecosystems in these sectors.
