GT Green Technologies & Partners: £3.7M Grant Powers Innovation

The GT Green Technologies project, in collaboration with Carisbrooke Shipping and The University of Bristol, has been awarded a £3.7 million grant to install a 20-metre wind propulsion system, AirWingTM, on a Carisbrooke Shipping vessel. The project is part of the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition Round 4 and aims to revolutionize commercial shipping with a focus on reducing fuel consumption and carbon emissions. The AirWingTM technology is expected to result in annual cost savings of over £139,000 and reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 14,250 metric tonnes over its 25-year lifespan. GT Green Technologies has already received multiple letters of intent for future orders and believes there is significant market potential for wind propulsion in the shipping industry. The grant is part of the UK Department for Transport’s initiative to decarbonize the domestic maritime sector through the UK SHORE program, which has allocated £206 million to clean maritime technologies.
