Slovakian startup Elv.ai has secured €500k in funding to help mitigate cyberhate and combat the spread of misinformation on social media. The funding comes from the Slovak CB ESPRI Impact One fund, which focuses on projects with measurable positive social benefits.

Elv.ai uses a combination of artificial intelligence (AI) and human moderators to make the internet a safer space for debate. The company aims to protect the credibility of media and public institutions on social networks by monitoring and moderating online discussions.

The company has already launched its product in the Czech Republic, where it protects the discussions and social networks of Prima TV and the Economia publishing house. Since its launch in Slovakia, Elv.ai has recorded over 2.5 million hateful or disinformation comments out of more than 16 million, and has identified over 5,000 fake profiles. In the Czech Republic, out of more than 2 million monitored comments on 44 profiles, up to 504,000 were hateful content.

Elv.ai was founded in response to the rise of cyberhate and the spread of misinformation. Originally a non-profit project by Slovak communications agency New School Communications, the company was established to filter hate content and protect online discussions. Today, Elv.ai relies on a combination of AI and human moderators to accurately identify and remove inappropriate and hateful content. The company currently serves clients including television stations, radio stations, and online magazines in Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

The funding from the CB ESPRI Impact One fund will help Elv.ai expand its mission to other European markets and further develop its AI tool for text analysis.
