  • EarthLabs Inc. has acquired The Northern Miner Group, an owner of several mining news brands including The Northern Miner, MINING.COM, and the Canadian Mining Journal.
  • This acquisition will facilitate an innovation wave as EarthLabs, previously known as GoldSpot Discoveries, will leverage its tech expertise to enhance the media group’s news distribution and awareness.

The Northern Miner Group, which was officially acquired by EarthLabs Inc. (TSXV: SPOT; OTCQX: SPOFF) on Dec. 1, encompasses brands like The Northern Miner, MINING.COM, and the Canadian Mining Journal. These brands command a combined reach exceeding 1 million users across news sites, e-digests, and social media channels.

The acquisition is set to usher in a new wave of tech-driven innovation. EarthLabs, formerly GoldSpot Discoveries, sold its AI mineral exploration technology division to ALS Global in 2022. EarthLabs has been seeking opportunities in the media space and the acquistion represents a complementing synergy with their portfolio says Denis Laviolette, the CEO of EarthLabs.

The affliated media brands of The Northern Miner Group will benefit from greater distribution including access to millions of valued users on CEO.CA, a subsidiary of EarthLabs. EarthLabs also owns DigiGeoData, a mineral resource database and mapping tool, and a precious metals royalty portfolio encompassing nearly 2,500 sq. km of prospective ground in Newfoundland.

The Northern Miner Group assures its readers that the trust and quality they have come to associate with its brands will remain. The media group will operate independently under continued leadership. Furthermore, The Northern Miner Symposiums, a successful and rapidly growing events segment, will forge ahead in offering sterling networking opportunities.

The acquisition will bolster multi-media journalism and the story-telling methods of The Northern Miner Group. Enhanced data offerings are also in the pipeline through leveraging DigiGeoData’s insights. Both TNM Maps and DigiGeoData Maps will merge to deliver the industry standard for mining project “Hot Play” activity mapping. The combined reach of the media group will offer advertisers unparalleled performance tracking reports and a larger geographically spread audience.

The Northern Miner Group looks forward to harnessing this acquisition to serve its audience with improved insights, data, and networking opportunities for the next century.
