The UVI Research and Technology Park (RTPark) has opened applications for its fifth cohort of U.S Virgin Islands -based tech startup accelerator, Accelerate VI (AVI). The initiative, which has a strong focus on companies based in the U.S Virgin Islands, supports the growth of the local tech ecosystem by aiding tech entrepreneurs in scaling their businesses in the region.

Participants of the hybrid program will embark on a targeted 12-week journey. During this period, they will participate in weekly guided trainings, receive coaching from subject matter experts, and gain connections to a suite of leading business mentors within their niche. The structured business curriculum aims to provide a roadmap of growth and development tutorials to help groom future entrepreneurs.

Accelerate VI is open to individuals aged 18 or older who own a technology-enabled company. Applicants need to have either a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) or an already launched business, the potential to scale into national or global markets, and to have raised or received less than $2 million in total investment. Applicants who are registered or willing to register their business in the U.S Virgin Islands are ideal for this program.

There is a strong focus on Sustainability Solutions and Renewable Energy, Financial Technology, Health Care, EdTech, and Sports Tech, though startups from all sectors are encouraged to apply. Since its launch in 2019, Accelerate VI has supported four cohorts and 22 startups, generating over $2.5 million in revenue and $7 million in capital for their businesses.

The goal of this initiative by RTPark is to generate long-term economic growth in the U.S Virgin Islands, aiming to fulfill all aspects of its legislative mandate which includes early-stage business incubation and acceleration.
